Shubuta, MS — The Mississippi AFL-CIO has officially endorsed Democratic nominee Michael A. Chiaradio in the race for Mississippi’s Third Congressional District.
Mississippi AFL-CIO President Mickey Carr confirmed the endorsement in a letter to Chiaradio, writing that the organization is proud to support his candidacy and intends to “put our boots on the ground and our shoulders to the wheel” through November 3.
The endorsement follows months of engagement between Chiaradio and organized labor across Mississippi, including meetings with union members and leaders, his address at the Mississippi AFL-CIO Convention in Biloxi, and his participation alongside workers exercising their right to organize.
In a statement following the endorsement, Chiaradio outlined the policies he intends to pursue in Congress.
He plans to make major federal investments in energy, water, transportation, and healthcare infrastructure that create good union jobs. He also supports increasing teacher pay and strengthening public schools, as well as policies that expand employee ownership and give working people a greater stake in the productive assets they help create.
Chiaradio also pledged that organized labor would always have an open door in his congressional office.
The endorsement adds the support of Mississippi’s statewide labor federation to Chiaradio’s campaign as it continues organizing across the Third Congressional District ahead of the November 3 election.
