Shubuta, MS — Democratic nominee for Congress Michael A. Chiaradio released a statement following Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh’s inaugural keynote address at Jackson Hole, connecting the Chairman’s discussion of productivity, artificial intelligence, inflation, and capital ownership to Chiaradio’s broader economic agenda.
Chiaradio argued that monetary policy alone cannot maximize America’s economic potential and that Congress has an important responsibility to expand the country’s productive capacity.
Chiaradio’s agenda calls for major federal investments in the energy grid, water systems, transportation infrastructure, healthcare delivery capacity, schools, and small businesses. He argues that these investments can complement technological advancement by creating the physical and human infrastructure necessary for American businesses and workers to become more productive.
The statement also addresses who will ultimately own the productive capital created during a period of rapid technological change. Chiaradio reiterated his proposal that when taxpayer dollars are invested directly into private, revenue-producing projects, the federal government should receive securitized financial interests in return. Those assets could ultimately be distributed through optional programs designed to broaden capital ownership among the American public.
Chiaradio also connected Warsh’s commitment to the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation target to his emphasis on asset ownership. Even when inflation remains at the Fed’s target, the purchasing power of currency gradually declines over time. Chiaradio argues that long-term economic security therefore requires creating greater opportunities for Americans to own productive assets capable of retaining value and generating income.
The statement concludes by calling for fiscal and monetary policy to play complementary but distinct roles in America’s economic future.
